Kluber Architects + Engineers is thrilled to announce the completion of the Animal Care and Control Facility for the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center in Libertyville, Illinois. The facility officially opens today, June 25th.
The newly-constructed facility was designed by Kluber Architects + Engineers to replace the outdated space the Health Department had occupied and used as their Animal Care and Control facility since 1995. They encountered many problems with the previous location, including flooding, security and temperature-control. The new one-story, 10,732-square-foot Animal Care and Control facility addresses these issues and provides an inviting work environment for staff, as well as a comfortable temporary shelter for the animals that are housed there.
Specific design components include an animal clinic with two exam rooms, kennels, grooming and washing room, isolation cages for contagious animals, spaces for housing less traditional pets, as well as a conference room and administrative space. The building site was an especially challenging aspect of the project. Many considerations were made for storm water runoff and lack of accessible utilities.
“We are very excited about the new building,” said Tony Beltran, the Health Department’s Executive Director. “The new centrally located facility will provide a humane and comfortable environment for the animals we collect.”
