Kluber Architects + Engineers designed a new Consolidated Public Works Facility on a 25-acre parcel of land. With R.C. Wegman as our construction partner, this 215,000 square foot office and fleet building consolidated several maintenance divisions housed in facilities in substantial disrepair. Our team also designed a new fueling station and an upsized winter road salt storage silo.

This new facility houses a variety of amenities and is the largest Public Works facility in the State of Illinois. Some key features include:

• Dedicated brine building
• Fleet maintenance with both manual and automatic wash bays
• EV charging for city vehicles and public use
• 2 overhead cranes
• An 89,200 square foot fleet garage
• Men’s and women’s locker rooms
• A 2,500 square foot lunch/training room
• Ten specifically designed shops
• A full scope of administration spaces, for both the Public Works staff and the City Engineers.

The building exterior consists mainly of precast concrete panels and glazed aluminum storefront or curtainwall systems. The roofing system was designed for durability, optimized drainage, and thermal requirements. With long term durability and sustainability in mind, the roof system was also design with structural accommodations and penetrations to allow for solar installation.
