“A soft place for people to fall,” is one of the first statements that Executive Director Nancy Vance used to describe her vision of the new LivingWell Cancer Resource Center. The community-based nonprofit organization offers support services to cancer patients, their families, and caregivers free of charge. The goal and challenge for LivingWell was to create an environment that would look and feel like home, while still serving the institutional needs related to wellness care. The end result is a facility that is free from the visual cues that are associated with typical cancer treatment centers.

Guests are greeted by the calming trickle of the foyer water wall and quiet and secluded spaces were designed for individual and group therapy sessions with comfortable sofas and carpeted floors. A dedicated children’s room provides children with a fun and imaginative escape from the pressures of cancer with its life-sized indoor tree and a ceiling that twinkles with fiber-optic stars. Other program spaces include an art therapy room, library, yoga space and a multipurpose room with a gourmet demonstration kitchen. Exterior waterfalls, ponds and patio areas surround the center to inspire relaxation and provide therapeutic benefit to LivingWell’s guests.

This facility is the result of intense collaboration matched with a passion for supporting those affected by cancer.
