Prototype Junior High Schools
Oswego, Illinois
In an effort to accommodate a growing population, Kluber Architects + Engineers worked with Oswego Community Unit School District 308 to develop a junior high school prototype that could be built cost effectively throughout the District.
Four junior high schools were built based on the prototype design. The first generation school was developed in 2002 to accommodate a 900-student population, while a later generation of the building prototype accommodated 1,125 students.
The education wing is organized for team teaching and contains individual pods for each grade level. A multipurpose room and resource center were also included in the design and construction. A fine arts wing features band and choir spaces, as well as a cafeteria with a stage. Theater lighting, curtains and a sound system were additional design components. Finally, the athletic wing contains a gymnasium and balcony that are sized to accommodate 925 spectators.
