Project Details

The St. Charles Park District asked the Kluber Architects + Engineers team to design the interior renovations of the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center. The Park District runs a variety of programs out of the Hickory Knolls center, ranging from pre-school to private events.

To facilitate their diverse programming needs, the Park District needed to make adjustments to the center. Some of the renovations included:

• The removal of an existing movable partition to create two separate spaces
• The design of a brand-new reception desk adjacent to the building entry
• Adding a new partition at the former reception desk to utilize as office space.

The two separate spaces created as a result of the removal of the existing partition include:

• A multi-purpose room that included the installation of a new folding glass door to provide access to an outdoor patio.
• An additional preschool classroom with new cabinets, sink, cubical storage, a children’s restroom, and a storage room.

The Kluber team was thrilled to contribute to such a meaningful project for the St. Charles community that will allow families to learn and experience the environment in new ways.
