After completing a full space-needs assessment for the City of Batavia, it was determined that the Batavia Fire Department needed drastic improvements to its two fire stations. Both were more than twenty years old, out of date and severely undersized.

Kluber Architects + Engineers designed a new 23,745-square-foot fire station for Batavia’s westside. Special care was taken to maintain the residential character of the station’s location. One way this was accomplished was through the use of residential-style windows with wood interiors and metal-clad exteriors. Limestone was also incorporated into the station’s exterior design as a nod to the city’s long history of limestone quarrying.

In an effort to create a comfortable and convenient fire station, staff needs were addressed in all design components. A dining room and kitchen are located on the first floor with a covered patio area for enjoying meals oudivoors. The second floor has a lounge area and rooms with beds for resting. Additional rooms were designated for fitness, lockers and storage. The westside station also houses Batavia’s Emergency Service and Disaster Agency (ESDA), apparatus bay and offices, a radio center, and an Emergency Operations Center.
